Jesy Nelson has provided fans with a fresh update on her twin daughters, who are currently undergoing treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

The former Little Mix singer posted images on her Instagram Stories on Friday showing her nine-month-old girls, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, fitted with leg splints while cuddled together beneath a blanket.

She captioned the touching photographs: “[Their] little splints.”

The 34-year-old also shared a video capturing a playful moment between the babies, with one mischievously grabbing her sister’s dummy, prompting laughter from their mother.

Ms Nelson shared another photo of one of the facts written on the hospital walls, stating her visits to the children’s medical centre are always “educational”.

Despite her positive posts, she recently admitted the process has been making her “really sad.”

“So today, I had to go pick up the girls’ splints because their feet are pointing, and they need to be flattened out. It made me really sad,” she told followers earlier this week.

The twins received their diagnosis at the start of 2025, when Ms Nelson revealed publicly that both girls have Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a rare genetic condition causing progressive muscle weakness.

Ocean Jade and Story Monroe were diagnosed with Type 1 SMA, the most severe form of the disease.

Ms Nelson has explained the condition affects motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, causing muscles to deteriorate and waste away.

“If you don’t get them treatment in time, eventually the muscles will all just die, which then affects the breathing, the swallowing, everything,” she said on Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast.

The singer has been open about her daughters’ medical journey, driven by her determination to raise awareness about SMA, which depends on early detection for effective intervention.

Ms Nelson has been campaigning vigorously for SMA Type 1 to be added to the NHS newborn screening programme in England.

Her petition has now gathered more than 100,000 signatures, guaranteeing it will be debated by MPs in the House of Commons.

“I cannot actually put into words how grateful I am that this moment has just happened right here! And it is all thanks to you guys,” she said after reaching the milestone.

“This is the first hurdle but we bl***y did it and I truly believe that together we are going to make change!”

Scotland has since become the first UK nation to introduce SMA screening for newborns as part of a two-year pilot scheme.

Ms Nelson described the development as “bittersweet,” posting: “I will never be able to understand why we are still not testing for it in England.”

The singer visited a Scottish laboratory on Wednesday that has begun testing for the condition, describing it as an “emotional day.”

She became an official patron of the charity SMA UK in February, saying she was “deeply touched” by the community and would continue advocating for the heel-prick test to include SMA screening.

The singer has put her music career on hold to focus entirely on her daughters’ care.

“They are my whole heart and soul and my main focus,” she told Heart FM’s Breakfast show.

Ms Nelson has also continued filming her Prime Video docuseries documenting her journey into motherhood, despite the devastating diagnosis.

“There’s a reason you guys are here, and we’ve got to make the best out of this situation,” she said.

The singer recently separated from Zion Foster, the twins’ father, amid their health battle.
