Jeremy Clarkson has ignited a rather unexpected spat with meteorologist and ITV weather presenter Laura Tobin on social media.

The Clarkson’s Farm star, who is no stranger to bemoaning the impact adverse weather has on his farm in Oxfordshire, didn’t take too kindly to a post from Ms Tobin about the past month’s conditions.

In January, Britain was battered by three individually named storms, wreaking havoc on members of the public up and down the country.

However, Ms Tobin took to X to celebrate some “good news” as a result of the tumultuous conditions.

Ms Tobin shared a screengrab from ITV weather that explained how Britain had smashed its monthly wind power record.

It has been reported that turbines generated an unprecedented 10.6 terawatt-hours of electricity in January 2026.

Analysis by energy think-tank Ember, drawing on National Energy System Operator data, confirmed the milestone exceeded the previous peak of 10.4TWh recorded in December 2023 by three per cent.

The three successive named storms, Goretti, Ingrid, and Chandra, were behind the achievement, bringing sustained high winds that kept Britain’s turbine fleet operating at exceptional levels throughout the month.

As a result, the record-breaking renewable output is said to have delivered substantial financial benefits for British consumers and the wider energy system.

Ember calculated that without January’s exceptional wind generation, the country would have needed to purchase approximately £164 million worth of additional gas to meet demand.

Combined wind and solar generation also established a new monthly benchmark of 11.1TWh, surpassing the previous record from December 2023 by five per cent.

Celebrating the report, Ms Tobin penned on X: “Some good news from the recent windy weather,” alongside a gust of wind emoji.

So to solve global warming, it’s best if we all freeze. Excellent.

However, not everybody was in a celebratory mood, with Mr Clarkson among those quick to react to the ITV star’s update.

“So to solve global warming, it’s best if we all freeze. Excellent,” the Clarkson’s Farm star sarcastically replied.

And he wasn’t alone. “Cut bills by (checks bill) nothing,” one X user similarly replied as they pointed out why they weren’t joining in with the celebrations.

A second also asked: “Who’s it cut the cost of gas for? Because it isn’t the end user, that’s for certain.”

“Our bills are not going down, so where’s the good news in that?” a third hit out.

And a fourth concurred: “Awesome. So our bills are going down, right? Definitely won’t just lead to a larger profit margin for the energy cartel.”

Ms Tobin has yet to reply to any of her fellow X users’ concerns.

News of the achievement may be little consolation to those who found themselves in the crosshairs of each storm’s impact on the nation.

Storm Goretti unleashed gusts reaching 123mph in Cornwall. This was the most powerful recorded in the region since 1991.

It also prompted heavy snowfall and a rare red “danger to life” warning from the Met Office.

Storm Chandra subsequently triggered a major incident declaration in Somerset as flooding cut off roads and rivers burst their banks.
