Jeremy Clarkson shared he had been rushed to hospital for “urgent” treatment recently, which came just hours after the Top Gear star slammed the NHS.

The presenter, 65, revealed he’d required treatment for a mystery medical emergency he didn’t disclose details of.

His hospital trip occurred just hours after one of his recent columns claimed that some international doctors working for the UK health service do so because they’ve been prohibited from entering the medical field in their native countries.

Mr Clarkson had also referred to the NHS as “a creaking old monster”.

He was forced to issue a glowing review of his treatment, though, after being rushed to an NHS hospital for a procedure on October 5.

After spending a night in the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, the farmer expressed gratitude for the service he received in his Sunday Times column.

Recalling how he’d become “poorly” and taken to the hospital for an illness he didn’t reveal because “that’s none of your business,” the outspoken TV personality described the procedure at “Defcon 1 painful.”

He wrote: “They had to chisel me off the ceiling with a spatula afterwards”.

He explained how he was “forced to stay the night,” before adding: “but it was ok”.

Admitting that upon learning he’d be going to an NHS hospital, he shared: “I had a very hot neck when I realised this and wondered if I should maybe tiptoe into the hospital in a Piers Morgan face mask.”

Despite his concerns, the Clarkson’s Farm star confessed: “I’ve slept in way worse hotels.”

He also wrote: “I genuinely couldn’t find anything to moan about at all.

“The doctors, nurses and everyone I met were kind. It was all spotless. Lunch was kids’ food – brilliant, and they even made me better – for which I shall be eternally grateful.”

Despite the positive assessment, Mr Clarkson maintains his initial stance on the health service, going on to argue: “We as a nation cannot afford it.”

In his initial scathing commentary on the NHS, Mr Clarkson wrote that it should be “sold”.

He penned: “Today, the population is 70 million and every single one of us wants new eyes and to live forever. And that’s impossible. Even our chins and toffs have enough intelligence to work out when it’s time to sell the baronial hall.

“They would like to preserve the history, of course, but they know it’s just not financially viable anymore.”
