Wigan Athletic midfielder Jensen Weir has agreed a new two-year contract.

The 24-year-old began his career with the Latics academy as an eight-year-old in 2010 before leaving for Brighton & Hove Albion 10 years later.

Following loan spells with Cambridge United, Morecambe, Blackpool and Port Vale, Weir re-signed for Wigan in 2024.

He has made 85 appearances in all competitions for the club over the past two seasons and helped Wigan steer clear of relegation from League One in the 2025-26 campaign to finish 16th.

Weir scored twice last season, including his first senior goal in Wigan colours in an opening day 3-1 win against Northampton Town.

“I am buzzing to finally get it over the line. It’s been a long time coming, but to be settled for another two years is something that I am looking forward to,” Weir told the Latics website.

“To work with [head coach] Gary Caldwell is really important. Since he came in, he’s been really good for me, and I am excited for next season.”
