Jaguar unveiled its new Type 01 electric car at a glitzy event in New York overnight, with stars congregating to see the brand’s first offering since its controversial rebrand two years ago.
The new Type 01 is Jaguar’s most powerful, most technically advanced and most aerodynamic vehicle it has ever created. It is backed by a 118kWh battery delivering 400 miles of range, up to 1,030 PS, and a 0-62mph time of just 3.2 seconds.
Rawdon Glover, managing director of Jaguar, described the Type 01 as the “foundation of the brand”, while JLR chief executive PB Balaji said it was the “beginning of an exciting new era”.
It comes two years after Jaguar overhauled its iconic design language with a bold advertising campaign and striking concept model that sparked strong reactions from the likes of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, who described it as “woke”.
Orders for the UK-made Type 01 will open early next year, with drivers needing £130,000 to get behind the wheel of Jaguar’s new electric car. In the meantime, enthusiasts and critics alike can give their verdicts on the new Type 01.
