“Hi, everyone. Just a quick message to say I have NOT left Emmerdale!” Mr Hooton declared on Facebook. “I’m contracted until March 2027 and have no intention of leaving-unless the show gets rid of me.” (sic)
The statement came in response to bogus posts on social media platforms that had claimed Sam Dingle was being killed off, causing concern among the show’s dedicated fanbase.
Mr Hooton went on to acknowledge that this was not the first time he had been the subject of fabricated stories about his departure from the programme.
“There appears to be some online news stories suggesting I’ve left the show. Ps. At least they’re not suggesting I’ve died of a stroke again! (That was a few months ago,)” he added.

The 31-year Emmerdale veteran made his debut on the Yorkshire-based soap in 1995, quickly establishing himself as a fan favourite, and following a brief departure in 1998, he returned to the role in 2000 and has remained a regular presence in the Dales ever since.
His reference to the previous stroke hoax highlighted the persistent nature of false celebrity death and departure claims that continue to plague social media platforms.
Viewers flooded the comments section with messages of support following Hooton’s announcement.
One fan wrote: “Yay, good, I love your character, and you play Sam so well, really wouldn’t be the same without you.”

Away from the screen, Mr Hooton recently offered a glimpse into his personal life, sharing news about his daughter Lily embarking on an extended trip abroad.
“Last family breakfast before Lily heads off on her travels! 78 nights away and countless countries to be visited!” he posted on Instagram.
The actor, who has two daughters with his partner Nancy, expressed pride that Lily had organised and funded the adventure independently.
