A 29-year-old international footballer was taken into custody in central London during the early hours of Saturday morning following an alleged incident in the West End.

Metropolitan Police officers detained the player at the scene on Wardour Street on suspicion of two counts of assault and a single count of affray.

The footballer’s identity cannot be disclosed due to legal restrictions.

They were apprehended after authorities received reports of an assault in the area.

The incident occurred in the heart of London’s entertainment district.

The arrest took place shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Officers were summoned to the W1 location at 00:47 on Saturday, December 6.

They received reports of an assault, according to a Metropolitan Police statement.

The alleged victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities have confirmed the injuries sustained are not considered life-changing or life-threatening.

Following questioning, the player has been released on bail as detectives continue their enquiries into the matter.

A Met Police spokesman said: “A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of two counts of assault and one count of affray.

“He has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.”
