In the pursuit of looking younger, there are many routes to go down. From skin care strategies to flattering haircuts to healthy diet choices, the possibilities are endless.
For a quick fix, makeup can provide an instant anti-ager – as long as you apply it correctly. A professional makeup artist spoke exclusively to GB News about her top tips for looking more youthful in your 50s and beyond.
According to Maria Jones, a makeup expert from CoverClap, the right lip routine can make a world of difference to a woman’s look.
Taking readers through her process, the expert stated: “I use a moisturising lipstick or natural-coloured lip gloss.”

Next, she stressed the importance of selecting a lip liner colour that complements your natural lip shade.
While many makeup wearers often assume that they should match their lip liner to their lipstick, this is not the case.
Going for a lip liner that matches your natural lip colour means that you can overline them seamlessly.
Maria said: “As the lips tend to thin out with time, a lip liner that’s close to the colour of your lips helps define them and gives an impression of fullness without being overdone.”
Indeed, the makeup gurus at L’Oréal Paris agreed that going for a compatible colour is best.
They said: “When it comes to choosing your lip liner, the two things to keep in mind for the perfect, overlined lip are the finish and the colour.
“To keep everything looking natural, you definitely won’t want to use a lip liner that’s too shimmery – stick with one that has a matte or satin finish.
“As for colour – keep it neutral. You want your overlined lips to pass for your actual lips and the best way to do that is to stick with natural shades like pinks, browns and nudes.”
When it comes to face makeup, the expert advised selecting products that do the job without looking too cakey.
Isabella said: “On mature skin, my utmost focus is creating fresh-looking skin – healthy as a youngster but without showing greasiness and feeling layered.
“Products that have light-reflecting ability make a huge difference by bringing radiance to the skin, helping to counteract dullness and a natural loss of luminosity through the ageing process.”

It’s also essential to perfect your foundation technique. “I would go for light-handed applications with either a damp sponge or a brush pressed into the skin rather than swept over the face,” the expert advised.
“This will give a perfectly smooth finish and never allow [your makeup] to settle into finer lines.”
To finish off your over-50s makeup look, Isabella said: “As far as the eyes go, instead of shimmering eyeshadow, one could try matte or satin.
“Placing a soft eyeliner very close to the lash line will help frame the eyes rather than make them look too small.”
For those looking to improve their eye makeup game, the expert previously spoke to GB News about the brow method that is perfect for women over 50 – it “re-establishes and lifts the eye area”.
