While an excellent skin care regime works wonders for a woman’s complexion, no amount of products can make up for a poor diet.
According to a beauty and skin enthusiast, eating more fruit could be the secret to radiance.
Jaime Nicole, who goes by @jaimesskin on TikTok, said on the sharing platform: “One of the most important things we learnt about skin care in modelling school was the effect your diet has on your skin.
“Here are eight things I incorporate in my weekly diet to support a healthy skin barrier and a more radiant, glowing complexion.”

Speaking about the benefits of consuming plenty of “colourful fruits and vegetables,” Jaime said: “I have a daily skin care bowl that I make that consists of strawberries, blueberries and kiwi. This bowl is extremely high in vitamin C and it contains vitamin A.”
The skin-savvy creator advised stocking up on fruits with “antioxidants and vitamins that promote skin health”.
Other antioxidant-rich foods include avocado; grapes; red and yellow peppers; leafy greens, red cabbage and kale; shrimp, crab and salmon; almonds, cashews, Brazil nuts and walnuts.
The skin experts at Nivea confirmed the benefits of antioxidants, stating: “Antioxidants are naturally-occurring compounds that can protect your skin from free radicals. They take the form of vitamins and minerals, particularly vitamins A, C and E, and selenium, an essential trace mineral.
“Free radicals are highly reactive, unstable molecules that can cause no end of trouble for healthy skin cells.
“Your body naturally produces free radicals, but it is also exposed to them via external sources, e.g. pollution, UV light and cigarette smoke.
“A balance between free radicals and antioxidants is essential for your body to function properly; an excess of free radicals, however, can overwhelm your body’s ability to regulate them, and this can trigger a condition known as oxidative stress.
“Severe oxidative stress can damage your skin cells, cause inflammation and contribute to the signs of premature skin ageing, i.e. lead to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.”
Speaking specifically about blueberries, the experts explained that these are “packed full of anthocyanins, which are considered to be nature’s most potent antioxidants”.
