An NHS Trust has taken down a plaque commemorating the opening of a hospital by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Chase Farm Hospital, part of London’s Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust, features a wall hanging unveiled by the former prince at a ceremony in 2019.

However, after King Charles stripped his brother of his “Prince” title last week, the hospital has removed the plaque, as revealed by the Mirror.

A spokesman for the Trust said: “Following the events of recent days and the changes to his status, the plaque at Chase Farm Hospital is being taken down.

“Andrew Mountbatten Windsor was removed as patron of the Royal Free London in 2022 and has had no association with our trust since then.”

The news will come as a further blow for the disgraced royal, who is set to depart Royal Lodge in the new year, having been ordered out of the premises.

At the opening of the hospital in 2019, Andrew unveiled the plaque, was given a guided tour of the new facilities and helped staff bury a time capsule.

At the time, the former duke said: “It is a huge pleasure to be here today, particularly as I am patron of the Royal Free London, and I am amazed at the speed at which this new hospital has been built.

“Hospitals are about increasing the likelihood of better patient outcomes and patient healthcare, and today I have been around this new hospital, met some of your staff, and it is clear that intent is being delivered.”

Former Tory MP Theresa Villiers wrote in a social media post at the time: “It is great to have such a prominent member of the Royal Family here to mark the formal opening of the new hospital.

“I have campaigned for many years to support Chase Farm Hospital, and I am delighted that its future has been secured with this new building.”

In 2019, Andrew said he was stepping back from public life after his Newsnight interview, saying in a statement that Epstein’s suicide left many unanswered questions for “his victims, and I deeply sympathise with everyone who has been affected and wants some form of closure”.

Andrew has consistently denied all allegations against him, and the Metropolitan Police previously considered the sex assault claims were not sufficient to warrant further investigation.

Despite losing his plaque at Chase Farm Hospital, a road named after Andrew will not be renamed.

Stotfold is home to Prince Andrew Drive, named after the former duke, and connects to roads such as Queen Street, Prince Charles Avenue, Prince William Close, and Prince Harry Close.

A spokesman for the council said: “Changing a street name can create an inconvenience for residents given all of the paperwork and cost involved.

“If residents wish to make a change, we will support them.”

Stotford Town Council noted that should residents wish to see a change, then the council will work with them.

Andrew was stripped of his titles last Thursday in a statement from Buckingham Palace.

It read: “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew. Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence.

“Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease, and he will move to alternative private accommodation.

“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.”
