Amanda Owen spoke candidly about a sad death on her farm that seemed “suspicious.”

The Our Yorkshire Farm star posted a video on social media, writing over the clip, “The highs and lows of farming,” in which she explained the incident.

She captioned the post: “Reality is just that. Gains and losses. We all know but sometimes choose to look away.”

She began the video by stating: “I know that, obviously, I put up so many pictures of life on the farm, and I like to think that I put up a true reflection of how things are and what’s going on.”

Seeming more serious than she does in her usual videos, in which she is typically smiley and upbeat, she went on: “So, this morning the children came back having been out with the dogs.

“They said that they found one of the lambs dead, and it definitely was in suspicious circumstances.”

However, Ms Owen clarified: “Murder, they thought. Well, as it happens, it wasn’t, it was bloat. The symptoms of which are pretty obvious, really.

“Basically, you blow up and pop, for no good reason. I mean, I’m sure there is a reason.

“It doesn’t happen to many of them, but this unfortunate lamb had done just that.

“It’s a weird one, isn’t it? You always wonder if maybe it’s because of the weather and because of the rain and maybe a bit of regrowth of grass and whatever and it had done just that.

“And then something had come along and had a little munch at it. Probably carrion, ravens, crows; they’d had a little bit of a feast.

“So it was definitely not murder, definitely not been there that long either, because with it being warm as it is, bodies, carcasses literally become a very green, grassy place in not so long at all, literally in the last 24 hours.

“So yeah, not a great start to the morning, but it happens. What can I say? Of course we’re annoyed about it.

“But that’s just how it is when you’ve got livestock; you’ve got dead stock.

“There are some things that you can try and prevent, but bloat is one of the ones that you just can’t; you don’t know who’s going to succumb. Better it than me.”

The mother-of-nine found fame on Channel 5’s Our Yorkshire Farm, which aired from 2018 to 2022.

The programme ended after Ms Owen’s divorce from Clive Owen, but the whole family now features in Channel 4 hit Our Farm Next Door.

Three series of the show have aired, with further upcoming episodes commissioned.

While the former couple remain separated, they have continued to work and live alongside each other successfully, running the farm and sharing jobs between themselves and their children.
