Police Scotland later said the Methil fire was not started deliberately

A number of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and trailers have been destroyed after a major blaze broke out at a harbour in Fife.

Emergency services were alerted at about 09:20 and seven fire crews were sent to the scene in Harbour View, Methil.

The blaze, which has now been extinguished, spread to a number of vehicles but there were no reported injuries.

Police Scotland said no criminality had been established and the area had been made safe.

Residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution as black smoke billowed into the sky

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said the last appliance left the scene just after 13:00.

A spokesperson said: “Multiple heavy goods vehicles and trailers were affected.”

The SFRS earlier warned of heavy smoke in the area and urged the public to avoid the harbour.

Local residents were also advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.

Harbour View and South Street were closed for a short time but have since reopened.
