Hannah Brier underlined her status as the fastest Welsh woman of all time, breaking her country’s longstanding 200m record with a time of 22.79 seconds at the Stratford Speed Grand Prix in London.

The Welsh record had been held for 44 years by Michelle Scutt, who ran 22.80 in Antrim in June 1982.

Swansea Harrier Brier also holds the Welsh 100m record of 11.26 seconds, which she set at the same Stratford meeting in 2025.

The 28-year-old from Neath had already set a new Welsh indoor 200m best earlier this year, running a time of 23.25 at the UK Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham in February.

Brier almost quit the sport in 2024 as she struggled to balance her job as a youth worker with an intense training regime.

She was a member of Team Wales as a 16 year-old at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the 2022 Games in Birmingham.

She has the Commonwealth B standard for both the 100m and 200m for this summer’s Games in Glasgow.
