News, Greater Manchester

A yellow Metrolink tram enters a station.

The work will affect the Eccles via MediaCity line and the Trafford Park line, which will only operate between Wharfside and the Trafford Centre.

Commuters have been warned of disruption on two tram routes due to essential engineering work.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) said the work would be taking place at Pomona and on the Eccles line over a nine-day period in August.

Passengers have faced weeks of disruption to the Metrolink tram network in Manchester city centre this summer, as part of a £150m upgrade.

Work began in June, with TfGM replacing older sections of tram track between Piccadilly Gardens and Piccadilly station.

The works initially took place between Piccadilly Gardens and Portland Street, with work on Aytoun Street and Auburn Street beginning on 10 July and due to continue until 10 August.

How long will the work take?

The work at Pomona and on the Eccles line will take place from Saturday 2 August until Sunday 10 August.

What disruption will it cause?

TfGM said the work means no tram service will operate on the Eccles via MediaCityUK line, or between Cornbrook and Wharfside from 2-10 August.

During this period, services on the Trafford Park line will only operate between Wharfside and the Trafford Centre.

Tram services are set to resume from the start of the timetabled service on Monday 11 August.

What does it mean for tram users?

TfGM said a bus replacement service would operate between Eccles and Piccadilly, via Wharfside, during the closure, and serve all affected stops.

Tram tickets will only be accepted on the replacement bus and not on numbered bus services.
