An 85-year-old grandfather has died more than four months after confronting burglars who broke into his home.
Gordon Nicholass was the victim of a burglary at about 03:00 BST on 29 April at his home in the village of Helmshore, Lancashire.
Lancashire Police said he was assaulted and suffered injuries to his head and cuts to his face when he confronted the burglars. He was treated in hospital and sent home, but was later taken back to hospital and died on 12 August.
Post-mortem tests have been carried out, but further inquiries are being made to establish if the assault was a cause or contributory factor, police said. His family added: “Gordon was a wonderful husband, dad and granddad.”
They added in a tribute: “He was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and well known for his engineering skills.
“He was always there to do anything for anyone – family, friends even strangers, you name it!”
They described him as “mister fix it” who was a “jack of all trades”.
His family added: “We will all miss him dearly.”
