An Army Cadet has been hailed a “hero” after he stepped in to help save a child’s life at a train station.

Jordan Kerr was on his way back to his home in Glasgow after Cadet training when he heard a cry for help at Drumchapel railway station on Saturday, January 10.

The 15-year-old discovered a boy, aged 10, on the platform having difficulty breathing.

He launched into action and, though having only learned First Aid through the Army Cadets around a year ago, performed CPR until an ambulance arrived.

Paramedics took the child to hospital where he is understood to be in a stable condition, according to the Lowland Reserve Forces and Cadets Association.

The teen’s sister, Nicola Kerr, praised her “driven and intelligent brother” for his actions.

She told the Daily Record: “Jordan is a hero. He went into fight or flight mode.

“He got the boy’s pulse back.”

Following the incident, the teenager has launched an online petition to install a defibrillator at the train station.

A defibrillator is a machine used to give an electric shock to restart a patient’s heart in the event of a cardiac arrest.

The change.org petition reads: “Every second counts in life-threatening situations such as cardiac arrests.

“Having a defibrillator readily available can mean the difference between life and death.

“At Drumchapel train station, a location where countless people gather and travel daily, the absence of this essential equipment puts lives at unnecessary risk.

“The installation of a defibrillator at Drumchapel train station is a simple yet crucial step towards ensuring the safety of everyone who uses this busy transport hub.”

More than 800 people have penned their names to the petition at the time of writing.
