Warrington Wolves have confirmed captain George Williams will leave at the end of the season to join a team in the NRL.

The England international half-back, 31, joined the Wire in July 2021 after a spell with Canberra Raiders.

The former Wigan man has scored 37 tries in 103 appearances for Warrington.

“Warrington has been a huge part of my life and I’ve loved every minute of my time at the club,” he told the club website., external

“Captaining this team and leading the boys out each week is something I’ll always be incredibly proud of.

“Myself and the club have been very open with each other throughout, and I’m grateful for the understanding and backing they’ve shown me.”

Sam Burgess’ men finished a disappointing eighth in Super League last season.

They start the new campaign with a trip to Sheffield Eagles in the Challenge Cup on Friday, before opening their league season with a home derby against St Helens on Friday, 13 February.
