Gary Neville has come under fierce criticism on GB News after blaming “middle-aged white men” for divisions across the country.

Adam Brooks described the former footballer and pundit as a “hypocrite of the highest order,” pointing to his vast wealth and privileged background.

His comments came after Mr Neville saw flags proudly hanging in the streets of Manchester.

In a social media rant, Mr Neville said: “I just kept thinking that we’re all being turned on each other, and the division that’s being created is absolutely disgusting, mainly created by angry, middle-aged, white men who know exactly what they’re doing.”

Discussing the comments on GB News, host Alex Armstrong said: “That’s right patriotism is to blame. Take down those flags, Gary.

“I mean, he is a useful idiot, in my opinion. I really think he is, and I think he embodies exactly this type of liberal, wealthy elite mindset that has caused divisions in the country.”

Mr Brooks fumed: “He’s worth tens of millions of pounds. That man could leave this country tomorrow if it erupted.

“He is a hypocrite of the highest order. Me and him have clashed on social media before he didn’t like it when I called him out.

“Look, no mention of mass Jew-hate on our streets or the violence from the left. But no, it’s middle-aged white men like me who like the flag. Yeah, of course it is.”

Mr Neville comments come after Manchester was rocked by an attack on a local synagogue last week.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

The assault occurred during Yom Kippur, Judaism’s holiest day.

Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz were killed in the attack on Thursday, while three people remain in hospital.

Police have arrested Jihad Al-Shamie for the attack and claimed that he may have been influenced by “extreme Islamist ideology.”

Three more people, between 18 and mid-40s, had been arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism.

In a statement on Friday, Al-Shamie’s family said: “We fully distance ourselves from this attack and express our deep shock and sorrow over what has happened.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with the victims and their families, and we pray for their strength and comfort.”

Mr Daulby’s family, said he “lost his life in the act of courage to save others” and his final act “was one of profound courage and he will forever be remembered”.

Mr Cravitz family said: “He was so kind, caring and always wanted to chat and get to know people.

“He was devoted to his wife, family and loved his food. He will be sorely missed by his wife, family, friends and community.”
