Wigan are one of the form sides in the division since Caldwell’s return, after stumbling under the stewardship of Ryan Lowe.

As to what he credits for their resurgence, Caldwell said it is not all down to tactics.

“I think we just made it fun really for the players. I think if you ask the players, they’ll say on a daily basis, they’ve enjoyed coming into work. They’ve enjoyed some new ideas,” he added.

“We play games a lot before meetings. We have a lot of fun. We got the players together and had a night out pretty quickly when we came back in here.

“I think as much as yes, we’ve done some things tactically, I think the psychological aspect of where the team was [showed] what we needed to do to pick the group up, to bring the group together.

“Results obviously helped that in terms of the spirit and the togetherness and the momentum that we started to build.”
