Poundland has confirmed the locations of nine more stores earmarked for closure in a blow to the UK economy.
Store closures have become the norm in recent years as more consumers opt to shop online, which has resulted in many retailers having to close their doors for good.
On the closures, a spokesperson for Poundland explained: “Customers will be able to take advantage of significant savings as these stores prepare for closure in the days ahead.
“The reductions of up to 40 per cent will see items marked down in price until they’re sold and cover all the stock in each store from homewares to groceries and clothing to health and beauty.”

This comes after a slew of store closures from the high street retailer towards the end of 2025 following confirmation of the restructuring deal.

Research conducted by the Center for Retail Research found that as many as 17,000 shops could close throughout 2025, including Poundland, Halifax, and New Look.
Contributing factors such as increasing business costs, shifts in shopping habits to online, increased competition, and higher taxes are all combining to create one of the toughest retail climates we have seen.
Experts at Amazon accountants Archimedia Accounts gave the following advice to impacted retailers: “It is important to recognise that despite the many store closures in recent times, retail is not dying, but evolving.
“Therefore, it is essential that businesses constantly adapt and react to the market. Store closures themselves don’t always need to signal a ‘downfall’ or an ‘end’, sometimes they can signify a key step toward financial recovery and a shift in focus on areas such as e-commerce.

“I would strongly advise retailers to focus on vigorous and consistent financial management. This is the foundation for long-term survival and growth, with financial planning and forecasting playing a critical role in risk assessment and overall strategic management.
“If a company lacks clear visibility on finances, informed decisions cannot be effectively made. Profit margins and outgoings should be consistently analysed, especially in the current climate of unpredictable inflation and consumer demand. In a competitive sector such as retail, staying ahead of the curve is vital.”
Darren MacDonald, Poundland’s UK country manager, expressed: “We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time, we’re determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers.
“The special reductions, on top of the value we provide in every store, will help us leave locations we’re leaving with pride.”
