Bank branch closures are continuing in November 2025 as high street financial institutions adapt to customers opt to use online banking in lieu on in-person services.
Major banks, including NatWest, Lloyds Bank and Santander are closing down locations next month but will your local branch be on the chopping block?
Research conducted by consumer champion Which? found that more than 6,000 bank branch closures took place between 2015 and 2024.
More closures are expected to take place in November 2025 with a two dozen sites shutting down and 500 expected to have ceased operations by the end of the year.

In reaction to Lloyds’ latest round of closures, AJ Bell head of financial analysis Danni Hewson cited wider changes to the British high street.
She shared: “The way all of us live our lives has changed and businesses are having to constantly adapt to keep up with those evolving habits.
“But the relentless onslaught of bank branch closures doesn’t give customers a chance to figure out if those closures leave more than just gaps on high streets.
“Whilst many of us can and do carry out the majority of our banking online, there are still occasions when only bricks and mortar will do.
”This round of closures from Lloyds will see 49 branches shut their doors, and although the rollout of banking hubs is steady there will undoubtedly be some people and places that will feel unsupported as a result of the move.”
On the rise in banking hubs, which have been introduced to mitigate the impact of branch closures, LINK’s chief commercial officer Christ Ashton, said: “It’s our job to protect access to cash, whether that’s through a free to use ATM, Post Office or increasingly through banking hubs.
“The good news is that when any bank branch closes or if a community asks us to assess their local area, we can recommend new services.
“That could include enhancing existing services like the Post Office or new hubs. To date, we’ve recommended 246.”
