Four individuals were taken to hospital following a road traffic collision on New Year’s Day which took place close to Jeremy Clarkson’s Cotswolds establishment, The Farmer’s Dog.

The incident took place at approximately 4.40pm on Thursday, January 1, at the junction where the A40 meets the B4047 in Oxfordshire.

It occurred near the pub owned by the former Top Gear presenter, situated close to Burford.

Thames Valley Police confirmed to The Oxford Mail that occupants from both vehicles involved in the collision sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Emergency services attended the scene, with the road being closed to traffic while crews dealt with the aftermath of the incident.

Fire crews from Witney and Burford stations responded to the incident, alongside a specialist rescue unit dispatched from Kidlington.

It is understood that when firefighters arrived at the scene, those involved had already exited their vehicles.

Despite this, fire service personnel assisted paramedics in providing emergency medical care to the casualties, The Oxford Mail reports.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service issued warnings to motorists about the closure, advising drivers to seek alternative routes due to anticipated significant disruption in the surrounding area.

A spokesperson for the service stated: “Due to a road traffic collision, the A40 is currently closed outside The Farmer’s Dog pub near Burford and the roundabout with the B4047.”

Police initially reported that a 23-year-old man had suffered serious injuries and was being treated in hospital.

However, Thames Valley Police subsequently confirmed that all four people travelling in the two vehicles had sustained serious injuries requiring hospital care.

Police also appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Officers is particularly keen to hear from witnesses who were travelling through or near the location when the crash occurred.

The Farmer’s Dog, which opened in 2024, follows the success of Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm and Hawkstone lager, both of which feature prominently in his Amazon series Clarkson’s Farm.

Clarkson has been vocal about supporting British hops and ingredients, with four of the eight drinks on tap at The Farmer’s Dog made entirely from UK-sourced produce.

He said the brewery’s demand could increase the British hops industry by up to 30 per cent.

Despite Hawkstone’s commercial growth, Clarkson said he is no longer interested in expanding his portfolio.
