Four people have been arrested after a man was killed and a teenager was critically hurt in a knife attack at a skate park.

Northamptonshire Police launched a murder investigation after an incident at the park in the Briar Hill area after reports that the two were stabbed “during an altercation”.

Reports of the stabbing first came in at 3.45pm, with the police describing it at the time as a “serious incident”.

Just before midnight on Wednesday, the force said a man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teenage boy was taken to hospital and remains in critical condition, police said.

Two teenage boys, a man, and a woman, all from Northampton, have been arrested in connection to the incident, and remain in police custody, police said.

The force did not provide a description of those arrested.

Detective Chief Inspector Torie Harrison, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life, and a teenage boy is in a critical condition.

“Our thoughts are firmly with both their families at this difficult time.”

House-to-house enquiries will occur during the police probe, DCI Harrison said.

She added that high-visibility police patrols will take place in the area to reassure the community.

A police cordon is also expected to remain in place as the investigation continues, with several roads being affected by the incident.

DCI Harrison added: “Arrests were promptly made, and enquiries are continuing to move at a fast pace.

“However, I would still appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information who has not yet come forward, to please do so.”

The force has encouraged those with CCTV, doorbell, or mobile phone footage of the incident to contact them as a matter of urgency.

Witnesses have been urged to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonyously on 0800 555111.

Anyone with information should quote incident number 26000098294.
