It is understood a well-known television presenter who fronted a popular BBC programme has been interviewed under caution by Metropolitan Police detectives in connection with allegations of historic sexual assault.

The man, described as a household name who appeared on the broadcaster’s shows, was questioned last month regarding claims of unwanted sexual touching that allegedly took place approximately two decades ago.

According to reports, the alleged incident occurred on the London set of his programme between September 2005 and December 2006.

The presenter denies the accusations against him. Sources indicate he “completely and utterly refutes” the allegation.

At the time of the alleged offence, the man was employed by an independent production company that made content for the BBC, The Sun reports.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are investigating a report of sexual assault against a woman in Stratford during the period between September 2005 and December 2006.

Officers interviewed a man under caution on Thursday, May 14, and enquiries remain ongoing, though no arrests have been made at this stage.

Sources say the presenter has fully cooperated with the investigation, attending his interview at an arranged time and location.

A source described the situation as “quite shocking,” noting that the star involved was left stunned upon learning of the investigation.

“The presenter has not been arrested at this stage but if he is, and if he’s charged, it will be a real bombshell,” the source told The Sun.

“However, he maintains there’s no case to answer.”

GB News has contacted the BBC over the reports.

The investigation comes amid a turbulent period for the BBC, which has faced multiple scandals involving high-profile figures.

DJ Scott Mills was dismissed from the corporation in March following allegations of sexual offences against a boy under 16.

Mr Mills was questioned by police in 2018, though the Crown Prosecution Service determined there was insufficient evidence to bring charges.

Former MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace departed last summer after an investigation substantiated 45 of 83 complaints regarding inappropriate behaviour.

Huw Edwards, the former News at 10 anchor, received a suspended six-month prison sentence in September 2024 after admitting to possessing indecent images of children.

Strictly Come Dancing has also faced allegations of misconduct and bullying.
