The FA thought a member of the Royal Family would be present at Buckingham Palace earlier this week as England celebrated their triumph at Euro 2025.
The Lionesses beat Spain on penalties after a 1-1 draw to retain their European Championship title, three years after overcoming Germany at Wembley.
Thousands of fans packed out the streets of London to welcome Sarina Wiegman and her trophy-winning stars home.
The bus travelled down The Mall, which is the street adjacent to the Palace.

The FA thought a member of the Royal Family would be present at Buckingham Palace earlier this week as England celebrated their triumph at Euro 2025
According to the Daily Mail, however, the FA originally thought that a royal would be present at the Palace to greet the team.
Prince William was in attendance on Sunday as England overcame Spain in Switzerland. Yet the Prince of Wales opted to continue his holiday, instead of returning to the UK, amid reports he’s in Greece.
As for King Charles, the monarch supposedly wouldn’t fly down from his annual fortnight at the Castle of Mey – while Princess Anne was also in Scotland.
Furthermore, other working royals were unavailable on the day.

GB News understands, however, that the Royal Family wanted the Lionesses to be the focus in the wake of their sensational achievement.
They wanted the Palace to be a backdrop, rather than in the spotlight, on such a monumental day.
The Lionesses have made history with Sunday’s victory, with Wiegman’s team becoming the first England side in history to retain a trophy.
They’ve also become the first senior England squad to win silverware on foreign soil, too.

Prince William attended England’s victory over Spain on Sunday night
Wiegman, speaking after England’s victory over Spain, hailed the morale within the camp and believed their bonding gave them an ‘edge’ over their rivals during the competition.
“I feel very good,” she said.
“I feel a little bit tired because we didn’t get that much sleep but I feel most of all, a lot of pride of the team.
“This new England, going into a new tournament and then finishing again with the cup, that’s just incredible.
“The bonding in this team has been incredible. I think that gave us the edge – I think we were the best bonded team.
“Everyone was ready to play, everyone showed up and everyone has had a contribution to the team on and off the pitch.
“For the wider public, not everyone has been visible because of not having that many minutes or having no minutes but everyone had such a contribution to the team.”
All of England’s knockout games went to extra-time – and Wiegman was delighted at the ‘resilience’ her players showed no matter how tough things got.

“Three times going into extra time, that’s crazy,” added the Dutchwoman.
“I feel this tournament was cray and chaos on the pitch. Off the pitch, everything was pretty calm.
“Also in the three games, we came from behind – we came from 1-0 or even 2-0 down. I think that shows so much quality of the players.
“The team showed so much resilience but also belief – belief that we can turn things around and we can win by any means. That’s also the words they used. That’s what we showed over and over again.”
