But that is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of prices at the World Cup.

The Athletic has reported that the average charge for a parking space at a World Cup match in the United States is now $175 (£133). Spaces for group-stage games at MetLife Stadium near New York cost $225 (£171).

Uefa has promised to reserve 10,000 tickets for each country for all group matches.

Fifa allocated under 4,000 tickets to each national association at the World Cup, despite most stadiums being bigger.

Controversially, Fifa has applied dynamic pricing throughout its sales periods, leading to prices being further inflated.

The final tranche of World Cup tickets will be released by Fifa on Wednesday.

Euro 2028 will not have dynamic pricing and Uefa has promised that roughly half will be affordable.

Fifa, meanwhile, has offered no detail on how many tickets are available in each category.

There has been controversy over the pricing for disabled fans, too. At the World Cup they must pay full price and there is no free ticket for a companion.

At Euro 2028, disabled supporters can access the cheapest categories and request a complimentary ticket for a helper.

Uefa’s resale value will be face value, while World Cup tickets are resold on a secondary market at inflated prices, with Fifa taking a 30% cut on top – 15% each off the buyer and seller.

A full list of ticket prices and sales dates for Euro 2028 will be announced in autumn 2027, with the first window opening after the draw in December.

Like the World Cup, ticket prices for the Euro 2028 will rise through the knockout rounds.

But tickets for the semi-finals and final of the Euros will be nothing like at the World Cup.

Supporter value tickets for the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey will be £3,119. At Euro 2024, the same band of tickets cost 95 euros (£82.50).
