Fiery red skies have been spotted above Greater Manchester, with one person describing the displays as “a gift from mother nature”.

Residents across the region woke up to the red glow earlier, which appears when dust and small particles are trapped in the atmosphere by high pressure.

This scatters blue light leaving only red light to give the sky its notable appearance, according to the Met Office.

“This is absolutely a gift from mother nature to remind us of the forthcoming equinox of winter,” said one business owner in Cheadle.
