Plenty of those on weight loss journeys incorporate a calorie deficit into their diet as their first port-of-call, which involves burning more calories than those consumed.

While some might opt to do this by increasing the amount of calories burned by heading to the gym, some might decide to cut more calories from their day-to-day diet.

Maggie, who goes by @bringingbalancedback on TikTok, has built up more than 200,000 followers on the video-sharing platform by sharing fat loss tips, including ways to start a calorie deficit.

In fact, the fat loss dietitian has offered a few words of wisdom, naming three foods to cut out of your daily calorie consumption to shed pounds.

Maggie named three foods to cut out of your diet to assist fat loss

The first drink she urges individuals to banish from your diet is any beverage with more than 80 calories, “because our brains just don’t process that we’ve consumed calories with beverages like it does food”.

She explained: “So then you’re consuming a lot of calories in a way that isn’t going to satisfy you or fill you up in any way, and that’s essentially a waste.

“There’s just no reason why your coffee needs to be 300 calories.”

The second food she encourages to dial back on is “naked carbohydrates”, referring to any carbs consumed on their lonesome, without any sources of fat, protein or fibre.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

“There’s one exception to this and this is 30 minutes before your workout, but all other times I do not want you eating carbs solo,” she added.

“Because if you’re eating carbs without protein and fat and fibre, then your body is going to digest those carbs really quickly.”

The carbohydrates will then break down into glucose, which will enter your bloodstream quickly, causing your blood sugar to spike.

Your body will then release lots of insulin to manage the spike, leading to your blood sugar being too low, which will culminate in increased cravings.

Beverages over 80 calories should be axed from you diet, Maggie said

“This cycle is bad for a calorie deficit,” Maggie warned, although she quickly added: “Carbs are not bad, you need to include them in your meals and snacks but just make sure that they’re balanced out with protein, and fat and fibre so as to not cause future cravings.”

The third and final food group Maggie encourages individuals who would like to lose weight to cut out of their diet is simply “anything that you don’t want”.

Any foods that fail to excite or overjoy you should be axed, the fat loss guru said. She added: “Why are you wasting calories on things that you don’t want?”

She said that she would prefer individuals to spend their calories on something that would nourish you and keep you very full or, at least, something indulgent that is “worth it”.
