Everton forward Kelly Gago “is free to go” if another club offers the release clause fee in her contract, says manager Brian Sorensen.

Gago, 27, told French newspaper L’Equipe, external last week that Everton were blocking a move to Paris St-Germain.

She also described their treatment of her as “unfair” and claimed that an incident involving one of Sorensen’s coaching staff during a training session left her in tears.

The France international has two and a half years remaining on her contract at Everton after signing an extension in June 2025.

It is understood the release clause fee for Gago is about £500,000 and that Paris St-Germain made an offer of 50,000 euros (£43,000) this month.

No other bids are believed to have been made for Gago.

“She’s out for the minute. She’s not fit or available to play. She wants to go,” Sorensen said before Everton’s match against Brighton (Friday, 19:00 GMT).

“She has a release clause in her contract so the club that wants her can just pay that and she is free to go.

“From my understanding, it’s like 10% of that release clause that has been submitted, so I don’t think she’s going anywhere.”

Asked if there is a chance Gago will play for Everton again this season, Sorensen added: “I don’t know at this point. We have to see how everything plays out.”

Club sources say an internal investigation following up on Gago’s claims cleared staff of any wrongdoing.

They also believe claims that meetings were missed and that Gago was forced to sign a contract extension last year are false.
