A train has come off the tracks in Essex less than 24 hours after 20 people were injured in a similar incident in East Sussex.

The latest derailment happened at Wickford and appears to involve a Greater Anglia service.

Images circulating on social media show the train having left the rails, though it appears to have remained upright.

This is the second derailment to happen in under 24 hours as a train in Lewes yesterday went off the tracks, landing on its side.

Train operator Great Anglia has said there is a “major disruption” to its London to Southend Victoria service.

On its website, it writes: “Due to a problem currently under investigation between Shenfield and Southend Victoria all lines are blocked.

“Train services running to and from these stations will be suspended. Disruption is expected until further notice.

“Please do not travel between Shenfield and Southend Victoria until further notice.”
