Harry Maguire is set to earn an England recall for this month’s friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan.

The Manchester United defender has not featured in any of head coach Thomas Tuchel’s squads since he took over on 1 January, 2025, despite being a key player during Gareth Southgate’s time in charge of the national team.

But Maguire, who has scored seven goals in 64 international appearances, has been praised for his performances during his club side’s improved Premier League form and push for Champions League qualification.

England host Uruguay on 27 March and Japan on 31 March, both kicking off at 19:45 at Wembley, with Tuchel set to announce his squad at 11:00 GMT.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is set to be left out.

The 22-year-old was handed his first senior call-up in November for the games against Albania and Serbia, but, it is understood, will not be included this time.

Scott’s omission could open the door for Everton midfielder James Garner to make his first appearance in an England squad.

The 25-year-old, who is on Tuchel’s radar, has five assists and two goals, having started every game for the Toffees in an impressive season.

England have two more friendlies in June, against New Zealand and Costa Rica.

They begin this summer’s World Cup campaign, which is being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, on 17, June against Croatia at 21:00 BST.

England face Ghana on Tuesday, 23 June (21:00) and Panama on Saturday, 27 June (22:00).
