Reform UK’s Head of Policy, Zia Yusuf, has slammed Chancellor Rachel Reeves’s pre-Budget briefing, warning that her plans signal yet more tax rises for Britons.
Speaking to GB News, Mr Yusuf described the UK’s national debt as “spiralling out of control” and criticised Labour for failing to get public finances in order before considering further tax hikes.
He said a future Reform UK government under Nigel Farage would prioritise citizens, cut wasteful spending, and reduce the size of the state, all while responsibly restoring the nation’s finances.
He said: “According to Capital Economics, Rachel Reeves is raising taxes faster than any chancellor in 55 years.
“We want to end this doom loop so the British people no longer face tax rises every year.
“Simply slashing taxes without fixing public finances is reckless.
“With £3trillion national debt and over £100billion a year in interest payments, we must be responsible to our creditors and level with the British people, or disaster looms people are still paying for it in their mortgages.
“Reform UK will cut taxes, shrink the size of the state, and do so responsibly while restoring public finances.”

He added: “Let’s be clear: Reform did not win the last general election, so Nigel is not yet Prime Minister, and Reform is not yet in Government.
“Instead, we have more ‘drunken sailors’ borrowing.
“The Government is borrowing £40billion more than it committed to last year, and taxes are set to rise again soon.”
In a speech from Downing Street, the Chancellor said she will “make the choices necessary to deliver strong foundations for our economy” for “years to come.”

She said: “My opponents will tell you that they could do more. Reform promised savings from our public services.
“And yet in Kent County Council, and councils they run across Britain, apparently they can’t find a single penny and instead plan to increase council tax on more than two million people.”
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch took aim at Rachel Reeves as she accused the Chancellor’s speech of being a “wafflebomb”.
The Tory leader said: “The Chancellor’s speech was one long wafflebomb. A laundry list of excuses.
“She blamed absolutely everybody else for her own choices, her own decisions, her own failures.
“She claims she will focus on the priorities of the British public. Whose priority is it to pay more tax?
“It is basic economics that if you tax something, you get less of it.”
