An email blunder led to several university students being wrongly told they had failed to secure the marks they needed to graduate.

Students who had completed fashion and education courses at Manchester Metropolitan University received erroneous messages to say they had not gained sufficient credits.

A university spokesperson said the mistake was “quickly spotted” and a follow-up email was sent “within minutes” to apologise.

Those who received the incorrect emails had all been due to graduate at ceremonies on Monday.

The mix-up only affected students in the Manchester Fashion Institute and School of Education.

As well as the apology email, a text message was also sent to those impacted.

The spokesperson said the university was “celebrating the achievements of more than 12,000 students as they graduate from Manchester Met and we are delighted to be welcoming them to mark the occasion with their friends and families”.
