Electric vehicle owners in a major UK city are set to benefit from new public charging costs, making running costs even cheaper.
Dundee City Council has confirmed that from Tuesday, September 1, electric vehicle drivers using chargers on the Evolt Network will pay less.
Prices will fall for AC charging from 57p per kWh to 55p/kWh, while rapid charging rates will drop from 69p/kWh to 67p/kWh.
The price changes come following a review of operating costs and usage undertaken by Dundee City Council and Evolt.
Drivers who frequently use ultra-rapid chargers, which are capable of delivering speeds of 100kW or more, will not see any changes to price, as they stay at 69p/kWh.
Commenting on the new prices, Councillor Siobhan Tolland, Deputy Convener of City Growth and Infrastructure and Transport Lead at Dundee City Council, said it was “great news” for EV drivers in the city.
She added: “I am impressed [by] how our partnership with Evolt is already bringing about benefits for people using the network and making costs more affordable.
“Dundee’s pioneering efforts in electrifying our transportation infrastructure and embracing innovative technologies have firmly positioned the city as a leader in the EV space. But we are not complacent.”

The Scottish National Party councillor for Lochee outlined that the council would continue to work on goals outlined in the Net Zero Transition Plan.
Ms Tolland stated that this would help Dundee become a more sustainable city and support the development of more environmentally friendly jobs.
Alongside the price changes, time limits on some chargers across the city are being extended from six hours to 12 hours.
These chargers are located at Alexander Street, Balmerino Road, Camperdown Country Park, Coldside Nursery, Craigowan Road, Dawson Park and Deveron Terrace.

Justin Meyer, managing director of Evolt Charging Ltd, said the partnership between the company and the council had already delivered “significant progress for EV charging”.
He also praised a new 20-year agreement with Dundee City Council to continue installing EV chargers around the region as more drivers switch to zero emission vehicles.
Mr Meyer added: “An important part of that partnership is continually looking at how we can make the network work better for the people who rely on it.
“Where we have the opportunity to work with the council to pass on lower energy costs to EV drivers, it is absolutely right that we do so, while continuing to support the council in delivering accessible, reliable and affordable public charging across Dundee.”

Drive Dundee Electric stated that the tariff update would not apply to Urban Fox chargers, which can also be found around the region.
These chargers will maintain the previous tariff rates of 50p per kWh, 38p as a connection fee and no overstay fee.
