Earl Charles Spencer issues relationship update just months after divorce

The 61-year-old posted a series of photographs on Instagram on April 18, documenting the couple’s visit to Oslo.

Earl Spencer wrote alongside the images: “Recent anniversary trip to Oslo with @catjarman – in fact, a double anniversary, as it also marked the end of my first year of not drinking. Never felt better.”

The photographs included a selfie of the pair at Vigeland Sculpture Park, with Earl Spencer embracing the Norwegian archaeologist.

Earl Spencer and Ms Jarman first crossed paths at an archaeological excavation at Althorp House, the Spencer family’s ancestral estate in Northamptonshire, back in 2021.

The pair have been romantically linked for approximately two years.

Ms Jarman, who hails from Norway, specialises in the Viking Age.

She was in Oslo advising on the forthcoming Viking ship museum, which Earl Spencer noted “is stunning” and is due to open next year.

The historian and his archaeologist partner launched a history podcast together in 2023 called The Rabbit Hole Detectives, which they co-host alongside Rev Richard Coles.

Earl Spencer’s trip to Norway comes four months after his divorce from Countess Karen Spencer was finalised at the end of December 2025.

The couple had been married for nearly 13 years, having wed at Althorp House in 2011, and share a daughter, Charlotte Diana, who is 13.

The Canadian philanthropist retains her title of Countess Spencer, which she would forfeit upon remarriage.

Prior to the divorce being concluded, Jarman had initiated legal proceedings against the Countess over alleged misuse of private information.

The lawsuit, which reportedly concerned the disclosure of Jarman’s multiple sclerosis diagnosis, was settled in December 2025.
