Drivers are able to bulk tax their vehicles thanks to new DVLA services that could help companies avoid administrative hassle when renewing their cars.
The DVLA fleet scheme allows businesses to perform a number of tasks if they have a fleet of more than 50 vehicles.
Potential benefits for companies include help with the “administrative burden that accompanies maintaining a large number of vehicles”.
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency provides businesses with a dedicated helpdesk, bulk dispatch, bulk processing, bulk taxing, View Vehicle Record, V5C on demand and online services.
The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) previously hinted that new tax systems would be unveiled for fleets to help with admin.
It added that the BERT (Bulk Electronic Relicensing Transaction) systems allow drivers and businesses to tax their vehicles in one transaction every month.
Once a business is registered with the DVLA fleet scheme, it can apply to use the Post Office Licensing (POL) scheme, as well as the BERT scheme.
The BERT system is limited to vehicles that are three years old or less and either a private light goods, petrol, diesel, alternative fuel, electric, disabled or a light goods vehicle (LGV), not exceeding 3,500kg in weight.

Businesses will get a reminder around six weeks before the tax is due, which they will need to return electronically within seven working days.
Payments are taken by the DVLA by variable Direct Debit on the first working day of the month before the tax starts.
This could provide huge benefits for companies, especially if they have a growing fleet of company cars that need to be taxed throughout the year.
The Post Office Licensing system is also free for companies to tax all vehicles due for renewal either with an emailed spreadsheet or at a Post Office branch.

POST OFFICEWhen renewing in-branch, the company must nominate their preferred Post Office branch, and confirm its fleet number, fleet size, and timescale for wanting to use the service.
The DVLA will then work with the Post Office team in Chesterfield to liaise with those who will work with them on the system.
From here, they can take their documents to their nominated Post Office and use a pre-funded account rather than alternative means of payment.
Drivers will also benefit from online services through the DVLA fleet service, which provides them with “quick and easy” ways to notify the DVLA about switching from paper documents to online.
