However, she started feeling slightly uncomfortable when he asked her to go to his place for their date.
‘He’s like, “Come to my apartment,” which … I didn’t know people who know him would have done. Ever,’ she said.
She agreed as they both shared a similar interest for interior design, but she said he then brought her to his basement.
‘We both love home design,’ she shared. ‘That’s my passion. I find out it’s his. And I’m walking through his house, and we go down to the basement.’
At that point, Barrymore’s co-host, television personality Ross Mathews, interrupted her.
‘OK, stop. Why are you going to the basement?’ he asked.
In response, Barrymore exclaimed: ‘Because I thought I knew this person!’
Referencing the actress’ experience with filming scary movies, he said: ‘You were in Scream. Don’t you know how horror movies go? This is step one. You don’t do that.’

She continued her story and recalled: ‘So, we go into the basement, which is the laundry room. And I’m a big fan of laundry. So, he was like, “Oh, you should see the laundry room. Look at this.”
‘And I’m in the basement in the laundry room and there’s a giant — I can’t even explain how large — size roll of clear plastic. Whatever it is,’ she continued.
‘And I am in this room, and I look down and i just went, “I need to go back upstairs,” she said.
She then recalled getting to the top of the stairs and then turning to her date to admit that she thought he was going to murder her.
‘I said, “You know, I know we don’t really know each other, but I was really afraid that you were going to murder me,”‘ she shared.
She added that the confession made for an awkward moment with her date, but the experience ‘totally bonded us.’
