Sara Davies has revealed she has been diagnosed with ADHD after undergoing an intensive neuropsychological examination.

The 42-year-old entrepreneur shared the news on her podcast Mind Your Business, which she presents alongside her sister Helen Goddard.

The Former Dragons’ Den star described receiving her results as “a mic drop moment” this week.

“It really has been a bit of a mic drop moment this week, because it wasn’t just my ADHD diagnosis that I got this week,” she said.

The businesswoman went on to confirm she was diagnosed with both the inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive types of the condition.

Ms Davies explained the diagnosis has given her valuable insight into how her brain functions and is wired differently from others.

She said understanding this will allow her to establish proper self-care support systems around herself to benefit her business interactions.

“Most of the stuff that you have will have a neurotypical brain, and you need to understand, as a leader in that business, how their brain works differently to yours,” she explained.

The entrepreneur emphasised business leaders must take responsibility for bridging this gap.

“And because you’re the leader, it’s up to you to translate your world into something that they can understand,” Ms Davies added.

She reflected on how her husband Simon has been instrumental in keeping her business ventures on track.

“I literally would have just run us into the ground, because it would have been too many ideas running on empty all the time.

“Simon came along and put the structure in.

“We’ve scaffolded around me to make it work and to make it successful,” she added.

Ms Davies joined the BBC’s Dragons’ Den in 2019 at the age of 35, becoming the programme’s youngest ever female Dragon.

She announced in March last year that she would be stepping back from filming to concentrate on her own business interests.

The TV presenter and author established Crafter’s Companion, a global craft tools retail company, from her university bedroom back in 2005.

More recently, in 2025, she invested in AP Race, the global swimming brand founded by Adam Ramsay-Peaty, and now serves as a board member for the company, which delivers swimming programmes ranging from infant classes to competitive training.

Ms Davies shared the podcast clip explaining her diagnosis to her personal Instagram page and wrote in part: “I’m right at the start of working out what this actually means for how I run a business and lead people whose brains don’t work like mine.

“And I promise I’ll keep you all updated every step of the way, but this episode is a great starting point for explaining where my head’s at immediately post the news!”

She said understanding her diagnosis will help her support those around her

Fans of the star were quick to flood her comments with messages of support.

“I am not diagnosed but recognise a LOT of traits you described here – thank you for putting it in such simplistic language for my inattentive brain!!!” one person wrote.

Another penned: “Very interesting thanks for sharing. Helps to explain adhd for sure.”

“This is amazing stuff!” wrote a third, as someone else said: “This is the most helpful video I’ve seen to explain ADHD.”
