Donald Trump’s United Nations ambassador Mike Waltz has condemned Andy Burnham’s “globalist” rhetoric.

Speaking exclusively with GB News, the top diplomat warned Washington fundamentally disagrees with the Prime Minister’s approach to climate policy, migration and international governance.

Mr Trump has long warned Mr Burnham and his predecessor, Sir Keir Starmer, that the UK must address the energy crisis by opening up the North Sea.

In a discussion with Bev Turner, Mr Waltz also warned the Prime Minister about harbouring an “obsession” with climate issues.

“This disproportionately affects those in need in the middle class, who just need cheap, affordable energy,” he said.

“Then there is the energy to power a modern economy with the demands that AI is bringing.

“Britain needs to be engaged in fossil fuel exploration… President Trump finds it incredulous that the North Sea is exploited by Norway to the great benefit of the Norwegian people, and not by the United Kingdom.”

The UN ambassador also criticised “borderless open migration”, insisting Washington rejected the approach.

“So many countries are committing civil and civilisational suicide, which is not something we support,” Mr Waltz stressed.

The ambassador said the Trump administration placed national sovereignty and democratic accountability at the heart of its foreign policy. “The President was very clear that sovereignty matters,” he said.

“Direct accountability to the voters and the people that put us in these positions matters.”

To that end, Mr Waltz stressed sovereign nations could still cooperate but rejected the idea they should surrender decision-making to international institutions.

‘I think at a fundamental level, we would disagree with that approach from the Prime Minister,’ Mike Waltz warned

“We can coordinate and cooperate and conflict as sovereign nations, but we should never surrender ourselves or the people that put us here to a globalist agenda, much less with unelected international civil servant bureaucrats in charge,” he said.

“So that is, you know, absolutely the position that this administration comes from.”

“I think at a first principles fundamental level, we would disagree with that approach from the Prime Minister,” he warned.

Despite the clear ideological differences, Mr Waltz insisted the special relationship remained “strong”.

Nevertheless, the top diplomat insisted the special relationship was ‘strong’

“Regardless of people’s politics, this relationship always has to work,” he said.

“We can disagree on all kinds of issues, but I can tell you, as a veteran who’s fought side by side with British soldiers around the world, it is strong. The intelligence sharing is strong.”

However, Mr Waltz said Washington would continue pressing Britain to increase defence spending and investment.

He pointed to recent concerns over the ability of British naval assets to deploy, referencing the Strait of Hormuz amid the Iran war.

“I think we saw, frankly, with the Strait of Hormuz, when you had several ships that didn’t work as they tried to deploy,” the top diplomat said, also warning the UK lacked key missile defences.
