Having a skin care routine is one of the most important aspects of retaining a youthful and wrinkle-free look.
A doctor spoke exclusively to GB News about what people should do in their routines, emphasising the need to cleanse your skin.
Expert at Get Harley Dr Sophie Shotter said: “Cleansing is a non-negotiable, morning and night.
“This is crucial to minimise environmental impact and inflammation on the skin, and to keep it clear.”

In the evening, a skin care routine should focus on recovery and a “thorough cleanse” helps this.
Dr Shotter said: “It removes makeup and pollution so that your skin has a chance to recover overnight.
“Use active ingredients too. This could be a retinoid or a peptide, but now is the time to use those ingredients that stimulate collagen production in the skin and regenerate overnight.”
A moisturiser in the evening helps “reduce trans-epidermal water loss overnight” so the skin can remain well-nourished and restored.
In the morning, “a broad spectrum sun cream with an SPF of at least 30” helps to protect against UV damage.
The expert shared: “Wear sun cream every day, no excuses, summer and winter. There’s no point in investing in expensive active ingredients if you aren’t doing this.
“Antioxidants also help to protect the skin from free radical damage it may encounter during the day. Vitamin C is the most commonly used one.”
The sun and pollutants cause damage to the skin and a “good antioxidant can help to mitigate the harm that these can do”.

The doctor noted that with all the elements of a skin care routine, the most important part is performing it every day.
She said: “Your routine doesn’t need to have 10 steps, but it does need to be stuck to consistently.”
Another expert spoke exclusively to GB News about how women can achieve a “facelift without surgery”, improving their appearance without going under the knife.
They stated: “Nothing substitutes for a facelift, but a comprehensive strategy of skin care, supplements, lasers and fillers can help prevent and in some cases reverse the need for surgery.”
