Southampton have signed Manchester City striker Divin Mubama on a season-long loan.

The signing comes on the same day Saints sold Northern Ireland midfielder Shea Charles to Fulham for £30m.

Mubama, 21, spent last season at Stoke City where he scored five times in 28 appearances.

He played just once more for the Potters after suffering a ligament injury in a 0-0 draw with Queens Park Rangers in January following a challenge described by Stoke boss Mark Robins as “terrible”.

The West Ham academy product moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2024 having played 18 times for the Hammers, including eight substitute appearances in the Premier League.

He was an unused substitute when West Ham won the Europa Conference League final in June 2023.

Mubama scored goals for Manchester City in pre-season games against Inter Milan and the K-League All Stars on the Premier League side’s tour of Asia earlier this month, as well as providing an assist in their 3-1 win over Atletico Madrid in Seoul on Sunday.

“With the way this team plays, when you’ve got players around you that have that much quality, you will be served,” Mubama told the Southampton website., external

“It’s up to you whether you put the ball in the back of the net, and that’s what I’m here to do.

“I’ve just come back from a pre-season where I’ve scored goals. I’ve been playing, I feel really fresh, I feel sharp, so I’m just really excited to get going.”

Southampton’s sporting director Johannes Spors added: “As soon as we knew about Divin’s availability we acted quickly to bring him here, not just because of his incredible goal scoring ability, but because of his work ethic and hunger to help the team, which will be vitally important this season.”
