A charity worker has been left distraught after flooding in a Heathrow car park wrecked his car.

Two weeks ago, a burst waterpipe left dozens of vehicles partially submerged, including Andrew Anastasiou’s Mercedes which sustained “severe damage” and is likely to be written off.

Mr Anastasiou, 63, told GB News how his trip to Athens was ruined upon his return to London when he was first informed of the issue – hours after disaster struck.

In the latest letter to Mr Anastasiou from Maple Parking, which owns the car park, confirmed his vehicle was one of those affected, “meaning it may have sustained water damage”.

But previous correspondence from the company revealed the vehicle was one of the worst-affected and was likely “a write-off”.

“We fully understand how upsetting and inconvenient this situation is for you,” the latest email added.

“Since the incident occurred, our team has been working tirelessly to manage the situation, assist customers and coordinate recovery and access arrangements at the site.”

Yet Mr Anastasiou told The People’s Channel he had received limited communications from the private parking company during the tumultuous period.

The company email reiterated that the horror flood “was entirely beyond (their) control” and stressed there was no negligence on their behalf.

As a result, Mr Anastasiou has been caught in a one-sided row with the private car park tsar, whom he said has refused to respond – or even offer up a picture of the wrecked car.

“I’m not going to let this rest,” Mr Anastasiou told GB News. “This is a total injustice. They don’t want to know… People just don’t care.

“Why should we be punished for something that’s not our fault? We turn our car over to people in good faith.

“We park our car somewhere, we come back and it’s a disaster.”

In the aftermath, Mr Anastasiou was forced to make a two-and-a-half-hour-long trek to work each day, a commute which is usually a mere 30 minutes each way.

He has since been forced to hire a car for the meantime until the parking company engages with him over the next steps necessary.

Owners of affected vehicles were advised to get in touch with Maple Parking, who owns the car park, and their insurance company for further information.

A Heathrow spokesman previously said: “A localised water issue affected a Heathrow car park, operated by a third-party parking provider.

“The issue has since been resolved.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and advise that passengers who believe their vehicle may have been affected should contact their parking operator and, if necessary, their motor insurer.”

GB News has approached Maple Parking for comment.
