Disney has reportedly held discussions with Macaulay Culkin about bringing him back as Kevin McCallister in a new Home Alone film, with the studio said to be extremely keen on the prospect.

The news was broken by Matthew Belloni on Tuesday’s edition of his podcast, The Town, where he revealed that the meeting had taken place and that Disney was “salivating” over the possibility of reuniting Culkin with the beloved franchise.

According to Mr Belloni, the studio is “extremely eager to make this happen” and views Mr Culkin’s involvement as a “major draw” for audiences.

Those who have heard Mr Culkin’s proposed storyline reportedly described it as a “really good idea,” though Belloni was careful to characterise the project as a possibility rather than a confirmed production.

Mr Culkin’s pitch would see Kevin as a grown man, either widowed or divorced, juggling the demands of a career while raising a child alone.

In his vision, the character’s son grows frustrated at being neglected and decides to lock his father out of the family home, turning the tables on the franchise’s famous formula by making Kevin the one facing the booby traps.

“The house is some sort of metaphor for our relationship [and Kevin has to] get let back into son’s heart,” Mr Culkin explained during one of his A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin tour events, describing it as his “closest elevator pitch.”

The concept would lend the series’ trademark slapstick an emotional underpinning, with Kevin needing to fight his way back into both the building and his child’s life.

The 45-year-old first shot to global fame in the 1990 original, directed by Chris Columbus, and reprised the role in the sequel alongside Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern.

His fee for the first film made him the highest-paid child star in history, earning £4.5 million at just 12 years old.

Mr Culkin walked away from acting entirely at 14, and the franchise continued without him through a string of sequels featuring different lead actors.

In the years since, Mr Culkin has enjoyed something of a career renaissance.

Speaking at a November 2025 event marking the original film’s 35th anniversary, he signalled his openness to revisiting the role, telling audiences he “wouldn’t be completely allergic” to another instalment, provided it “would have to be just right.”

Chris Columbus, who directed the 1990 original, has previously voiced scepticism about returning to the property, suggesting that recapturing the magic of the first film would be an impossible task.

Mr Culkin was recently spotted visiting Disney’s Hollywood lot, lending further weight to reports that substantive conversations are under way.

The actor has twice stepped back into Kevin McCallister’s shoes for commercial projects — first in a 2018 Google Assistant advert and more recently for a Home Instead campaign, in which a woman portrayed Old Man Marley’s granddaughter.

Home Alone has also remained woven into Mr Culkin’s personal life.

He and partner Brenda Song have reportedly used the film to teach their young sons about stranger danger, with one of their children once believing his father truly was Kevin.

GB News has contacted Disney abut the reports.
