Davina McCall has sparked a debate among social media users after attending this past weekend’s “anti-far-right” march in central London.

The former Big Brother host was pictured dancing enthusiastically on stage among a crowd of scantily dressed protesters during the demonstration, which took place in Trafalgar Square on Saturday.

The event formed part of the Together Against The Far Right march, hosted by the left-wing Together Alliance.

Footage and images circulating on social media show Ms McCall smiling and dancing to Original Nuttah by UK Apache and Shy FX as crowds gathered around her.

The viral post, shared by Haringey Community Action, praised the turnout. It read: “Fantastic turnout from Haringey people (and others) at the biggest march, demo and festival, in living memory against the evils of racism – for Love, Hope, Unity, Solidarity & Peace.

“This has to be the beginning, not the end.”

However, the image quickly divided opinion, with critics taking aim at the presenter’s involvement and questioning the nature of the demonstration.

One user wrote: “The presence of Davina McCall doesn’t usually signify relevance, however.”

Another added: “Judging by the quality of these people, education is indeed a privilege.”

More strongly worded criticism followed, with one commenter claiming: “You aren’t standing up to anything, you are the fascists, racists and bigots you claim to protest against.”

Further comments accused demonstrators of being “disingenuous” and out of touch.

The image of Ms McCall was also reshared by other accounts, prompting additional criticism directed at the present personally.

One user wrote: “I’m fed up with these celebs thinking they’re above it all until they’re caught in a bad photo op like this one.”

Another said: “That’s a shame, I used to respect her.”

“Look at the glee on their faces. This is performative middle class nonsense while the working class are being robbed, stabbed and raped up and down the country,” added a third.

Another penned: “My goodness me. And I thought Davina was somewhat sane.”

The performances have attracted criticism online

However, some rushed to the presenter’s defence.

“Go on Davina! Even more reason to love her, national treasure there,” one supporter commented, while another urged critics to “ignore the p****s on here who use you as a way to take the p*** and pedal hate”.

The backlash intensified after protest group The Pink Ladies shared the image alongside a caption, writing: “Davina is NOT a Pink Lady. In fact, she was at the ‘Far Right Hate March’ on Saturday… As a Mother, we expected better!” (sic)

The demonstration itself was part of a wider national mobilisation, with tens of thousands of people gathering in London to oppose what organisers described as a rise in far-right activity.

Groups involved included Stand Up To Racism, with local campaigners such as Haringey Stand Up To Racism regularly organising rallies and community events aimed at countering extremism and promoting unity.

Despite the criticism, Ms McCall has not publicly addressed the backlash surrounding her appearance at the rally.

The presenter, who is known for her advocacy on women’s health and social issues, has previously spoken about the importance of unity, often avoiding formal alignment with political parties.

GB News has contacted Ms McCall for comment.
