Calbee Group UK Ltd has urgently recalled two of its crisp products after discovering undeclared allergens.
The company has declared Hot & Spicy Chips and Pizza Chips hazardous following the identification of undeclared mustard and celery, respectively.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed the recall, stating: “This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard or celery.”
Both allergens can trigger serious reactions in sensitive individuals, prompting the FSA to issue crucial guidance for affected customers.
The recall covers multiple pack sizes and extends to products with best-before dates stretching into mid-2026.
The Hot & Spicy Chips recall affects both 55g and 105g packets with best-before dates up to and including June 5, 2026, while Pizza Chips in 55g packs are covered until April 28, 2026.
Calbee Group UK assured shoppers: “We take the integrity of our products very seriously, and although the risk to consumers is relatively low, we are taking the precaution of recalling the above products and alerting our customers and the relevant allergy support organisations.”

The manufacturer has distributed point-of-sale notices to retailers explaining the situation to shoppers. Allergy support organisations have also been notified and will communicate the recall to their members.
Customers who have purchased either product and suffer from mustard or celery allergies have been advised: “Do not eat them.”
Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund, the FSA advised. Alternatively, affected shoppers can simply dispose of the crisps.

Despite describing the overall risk as relatively low, Calbee emphasised its commitment to consumer safety by initiating the precautionary withdrawal. The recall represents standard procedure when labelling errors involving allergens are identified.
The recall comes just days after an Aldi chocolate was pulled from shelves over serious health risks.
With shoppers warned of potentially “life-threatening” consequences, the supermarket called for immediate action.

The FSA explained: “Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
“Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect, or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”
