A police crackdown on antisocial behaviour has been launched in a town centre after a spike in incidents.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said “youths” were behind eight different incidents in Hindley town centre.

The force said several items had been thrown at cars, as well as criminal damage and “alcohol-related disturbances”.

GMP have put in place a section 35 dispersal order, which runs until 15:00 BST on 29 September, which allows police to exclude anyone from an area for up to 48 hours through a written notice.

Insp Adam James said: “We’ve seen a concerning rise in antisocial behaviour in Hindley Town Centre and Wigan as a whole over the past few days, with incidents involving criminal damage and alcohol-related disturbances.”

He added that the “dispersal order is a proactive measure” alongside police patrols.
