Beverley Callard has reached a significant milestone in her cancer journey, finishing her 10th and final radiotherapy session following a breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

The 69-year-old actress, renowned for portraying Liz McDonald on the ITV soap Coronation Street, shared the news with followers through an Instagram video, appearing visibly relieved.

Ms Callard first revealed her diagnosis in February and commenced radiotherapy treatment this month.

In her video announcement, she expressed genuine happiness at completing this phase of treatment, writing in the caption: “And that’s a wrap on radiotherapy! 10 sessions over and done with!”

Speaking in the video, Ms Callard said: “I’ve done it, I’ve just finished my last radiotherapy session, fingers crossed.

“That was number 10 for me and lots of people have to have lots more, I know that. But for now, that’s finished so hopefully, don’t know for sure, but hopefully I won’t need any more.”

The former Coronation Street star shared the milestone with fans in an emotional Instagram video

Her husband Jon McEwan, who was filming, offered encouragement: “Positive thinking, darling, that’s it.”

The actress admitted to mixed emotions about reaching this point.

“To be honest, I feel a bit numb,” she said.

“Yesterday I really struggled, but today I’ve been fine.”

Ms Callard explained that further medical appointments lie ahead, with a consultation scheduled with her professor in two months’ time.

“I’ve got to see the professor again in two months and then I’ll know a lot more and mammograms and oncologists and all that, but radiotherapy is finished for now, so I’m really thrilled,” she said.

Despite the momentous occasion, the actress opted against any grand celebration.

“I’m not going to celebrate tonight, we’re too tired, we can’t be bothered,” she explained.

“I’m going to put scruffy clothes on and just sit and watch TV with a cup of tea.”

The actress previously spoke about discovering her diagnosis during an appearance on RTÉ’s The Late Late Show with Patrick Kielty.

She recalled receiving a call from her consultant whilst preparing in her dressing room at Fair City, where she had recently taken on the role of Lily Patterson.

“I was in my dressing room at Fair City, getting ready to go on, and I was quite nervous and thinking, ‘I hope everybody thinks I’m all right’, and my consultant rang me and said, ‘You’ve got to come back to the UK,'” she told the programme.

Ms Callard and her husband Jon relocated to Ireland earlier this year for her Fair City role.

Her departure from I’m A Celebrity South Africa last autumn, when she experienced what she described as “a bit of a funny turn,” marked the beginning of her diagnosis journey.

Fans of the actress were quick to flood her Instagram comments with well wishes.

“Hope that is it, stay very positive, Beverley”, one person wrote, as another added: “Well done, lovely lady. You rocked it. Sending you love.”

A third fan added: “Well done. You’re so strong and inspiring.”
