A child has been rushed to hospital after a house was engulfed in flames in London in the early hours of this morning.

A man and woman were also rescued from the blaze, which ripped through the ground floor, first floor and roof of the two-storey home.

The three people were found suffering from smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to the scene on Halesowen Road in Morden, London Fire Brigade confirmed.

Crews from Sutton, Mitcham, Wimbledon, New Malden, Wallington, Tooting, Norbury, Wimbledon and Clapham fire stations were deployed.

Firefighters battled flames using a towering 32-metre turntable ladder, dousing the fire from above.

A 15kg gas cylinder was cooled and removed to a safe location to prevent a potentially deadly explosion.

The ground floor, first floor and roof of a two-storey end-of-terrace house were all destroyed by the fire.

The first of 17 emergency calls were received at 4.04am, with the fire ultimately controlled by 6.06am.

The fire brigade confirmed an investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the devastating blaze.
