Patty Bell said: “Looking fabulous after 50 starts with great skin, natural-looking makeup and a magnifying mirror.” She recommended regular exfoliation, moisturising and Gua sha use for an excellent complexion.
As for makeup, Patty advised women over 50 to ditch the powder and heavy, matte foundations in favour of a lightweight, tinted moisturiser for a “natural-looking complexion” – ideally one that contains hyaluronic acid and sunscreen.
She recommended using a cream blush instead of a powder brush, as this is “easy to blend into the skin and gives a more luminous glow”.
The expert advised: “Choose a brighter pink or berry shade to add a little life to the skin.”
Moving on to accentuating the eyes, Patty urged women over 50 to invest in under-eye concealer, brow pencil, mascara and lashes for youthful, bright eyes.
She said: “As we get older, the skin under the eyes gets thinner and tends to hollow out.
“Use a concealer with a yellow undertone to instantly brighten the under-eye area and make you look more awake.”
She also advised investing in a good brow pencil to combat thinning eyebrows, explaining that they can “fill in any sparse areas for a fuller-looking brow”. She recommended going for one that creates natural, hair-like strokes.
Finally, Patty instructed: “Don’t skimp on the mascara – it’s the one beauty product most women can’t live without.
“It’s a great way to open up the eyes and give you a more youthful look.”
