A beautiful head of hair is achievable through various methods. These include picking the right haircut, using the correct products and knowing how to wash your hair correctly.
However, one expert has shone a light on what they believe is “fundamental for maintaining healthy hair”.
Speaking exclusively to GB News, celebrity hairstylist Gustav Fouche explained that women should engage with “proper washing techniques” for their scalps.
Gustav said: “It’s not just about washing your hair, but also thoroughly cleansing the scalp. You need to ensure that shampoo is evenly distributed and massaged into the scalp before rinsing thoroughly.”
The expert recommended massaging the scalp when shampooing

Focusing on the scalp will remove “residual product, which can build up and weigh down the hair”.
How you apply your shampoo and conditioner also matters considerably for how your hair looks, and the expert shared his favourite technique.
Gustav said: “My milking technique (gently pulling the hair like milking a cow) helps to lock in moisture and seal the cuticle, enhancing shine and softness. This is a step I never skip with my clients.”
Looking for the right ingredients in your shampoo and conditioner not only “nourishes both the scalp and the hair”, but also helps it to grow thicker and fuller.
The celebrity hairstylist noted: “I always recommend a hair and scalp elixir to my clients, as it stimulates growth, strengthens hair, and reduces shedding.”
One of the ingredients Gustav said you should “eliminate from your hair care routines” is silicone, as it can create considerable damage.
He explained: “It can coat the hair shaft, preventing moisture from penetrating and ultimately leading to dryness and breakage.
“Choosing natural, nourishing ingredients will promote healthier, stronger hair in the long run.”
Gustav recommended investing in a shampoo and conditioner that is designed to be applied to the scalp

Ensuring your hair is hydrated and “well-moisturised” is very important for keeping it “healthy and glossy”.
The hairstylist explained: “Hydration is key. It helps hair maintain its elasticity and shine, which are both vital for a youthful appearance.”
Healthy, glossy hair is always a sign of vitality. Another hairstylist who has been in the industry for 30 years advised a specific chop that can be particularly transformative for mature women.
Speaking exclusively to GB News, the guru revealed that face-framing layers can help to conceal crow’s feet, the wrinkles which creep in at the sides of the eyes.
